Hi,
I own both brands of kayaks Benner Boat and Action Fish. All of our boats are custom designed (engineered) for each individual customer. Meaning each boat or kit is designed for them to meet their body length, weight, use etc...
Our Benner Boat brand is for our high-end kayaks built without staples and the best wood we can find. This was our first brand of boats we began to build.
Action Fish we launched in response to customers wanting kits for our boats and more affordable complete custom kayaks. Action Fish complete kayaks we build with staples and standard clear grain strips. The main difference between the two brands complete boats is simply the time we spend building them. Building with staples allows us to go much faster, but also marks the surface.
We launched Action Fish as a separate brand so that we are not as significantly impacting our Benner Boat business/brand. Our Action Fish boats and kits are accessible to a much broader market and we were not sure how that would impact our Benner Boat business. Though the back end engineering and designing is the same for both brands.
It was mentioned, "Is this the beginning of the end for unique strip built (or S&G) kayaks? Only time will tell...but I don't think so."
We sure hope not, that's part of the reason why we love building our boats in the first place. If you are ever in Port Townsend please stop by for a chat or a paddle.
Best regards,
Eric Lazo
: Both sites are registered to the same name, Eric Lazo. I'm not sure why he
: went to the effort to make it look like two distinct companies.
: I wish him well. He is certainly jumping in with both feet, spending a lot on
: advertising with 2 well done full-color ads in WoodenBoat and ads on
: several different web sites.
