I found a site with the specs for BS1088. A similar search did not return specs for BS6566 for comparison, but it lays to rest the debate over whether or not all plys must be the same thickness. According to this doc, the outer veneers each must be no less than 1/8th the thickness of the entire board. So, 4mm BS1088 okoume would require only a .5mm thickness for each outer veneer. The core ply, then, can account for up to 3mm of the total thickness. That's consistent with what I found with the okoume I bought here in Chicago.
