Thanks for the warning, Peter. I've been under the misapprehension that all veneers had to be approximately equal.
My apologies to all those I misled.
The only 1088 I've puchased came from Noahs and was made by Bruynzeel. The quality was outstanding and the panels easily withstood all the torture I inflicted on them.
But Noahs is a 600 mile round trip from where I live so I have since located a place much closer. I just checked both web sites again and they state face verneers are 1.4mm-1.5mm.
Too bad every supplier isn't that forthcoming.
thanks again,
Charlie

: I found a site with the specs for BS1088. A similar search did not return
: specs for BS6566 for comparison, but it lays to rest the debate over
: whether or not all plys must be the same thickness. According to this doc,
: the outer veneers each must be no less than 1/8th the thickness of the
: entire board. So, 4mm BS1088 okoume would require only a .5mm thickness
: for each outer veneer. The core ply, then, can account for up to 3mm of
: the total thickness. That's consistent with what I found with the okoume I
: bought here in Chicago.

: See for yourself.
