I inherited 16 sheets of aircraft-grade Finland birch plywood. The sheets are 50"x50" square, 1.5 mm and 2.0 mm thicknesses. I have about equal number of each thickness. The 2.0 mm sheets are 5-ply (yes, five plys of wood in less than a tenth of an inch). The 1.5 mm (less than 1/16") sheets are 3-ply. They are all resin-bonded, void-free, strong, and absolutely gorgeous. The 2.0 mm sheets might be OK for a classic S&G construction (with a bit extra internal structure). The 1.5 mm sheets could be used as "skin" for a frame boat. I'm thinking a Greenland-style might be better because of fewer joints (edge on edge gluing could be tricky). Could a classic SOF boat be covered with a "fexible" plywood? Imaging trying to cover a boat frame with a sheet of cardboard about as thick and stiff as the backing on a writing pad. What would you do with this stack of wood? Suggestions and comments welcomed.
