In the Cincinnati area - this is the second annual. All in all, a fun morning. It's a mass event, so only officially covers 6 miles from just upriver to the city's waterfront. The Ohio's at pool this time of year (actually, just got down in time for the event), so it's basically a long narrow lake. The Coasties closed the river for the morning to barge traffic, and the OH and KY DNR's did their best to discourage the power boaters. Once downtown, there was a mini-festival to go with the event.
A lot of rec boats and rental canoes - I think the local livery co. shipped in two semis full of canoes. Not so many 'serious' kayaks, and even fewer (of course) woodies. I counted six, probably missed some. How many times did I repeat this conversation: "Thanks. Yes, it's really wood. Yep, built it myself. Oh, about 38 pounds. Not really - a few months of evenings - maybe 100 hours. Thanks - see you downtown." It's neat, but I like to keep it to a few dozen times per outing.
I've added a link to the organizing site.
