: Recently, my kayak was on a pier and was blown into a pole. It hit right
: where the hull and deck meet. It left a small indention on the hull, but
: popped the glass off of the deck in a small area. My question is to fix
: this ding could I mix up some epoxy and inject epoxy witn a syringe in the
: off glassed bubble? As opposed to sanding down the deck to the bubble and
: reglass the deck and then varnish. Thanks for your advice
At some time in the future you may want to sand down the area and patch it, but for now I think injecting a little bit of epoxy should do the trick.
before yo do that, though, check the inside of the boat to see if there is any corresponding damage. If you find that the wood is intact (not fractured) then poke at the area with great force, or tap it with a hammer to see if the wood will spring back out a bit.
It is possible that the impact forced in the wood a bit, and the tapping or pressure may pop it back into its original position. That would leave you with a smaller hole to fill. If you find that the interior glass has loosened its hold on the wood, too, then you can do the same injection routine on both sides in the same repair session.
If this is above the water line, and not leaking, there is no hurry to fix it. You could leave the repair until autumn and fix it along with all the other dings you'll rack up paddling through the summer.
