You might look at using a lacrosse helmet (hockey helmet) with a T-Bar face guard attached. The risk with a T-bar attachment could be that it will latch onto something and rip your head off. A full face mask might be an alternative woth looking at, as Myrl suggests. I gather, Sage, that you plan on heading back up to those rapids as soon as you get a chance. If I had my butt kicked like that I'd be wanting back in there, too! Just make sure you go easy next time.
