I built a Night Heron last year.
I was planning to buy WRC from a timberyard I had previously dealt with in Queanbeyan, but they no longer stocked it. The plan had been to get them to cut 19mm planks that I could rip down to 19mmx6mm strips. Because I didn't like the idea of converting $100 worth of the timber to sawdust, I had tuned up a bandsaw and had been able to get consistent width strips.
Instead of buying a lot of WRC cut from a single piece for about $300, I paid $100 for enough to build two kayaks by going through the pile of offcuts trimmed from the edge of their big pieces over the years.
I probably finished up with a more interesting kayak and was more than pleased with the result.
I decided to buy all my fibreglass, resin etc from one source. I used BoatCote and found it did a good job. There are cheaper resins available, but this one is made for wooden boat construction and has a clear finish rather than the amber colour of some resins.

The Night Heron is a great kayak and attracts a lot of attention.
