Am nearly finished with a new folding frame. ( See Link) Still remaining is
the addition of removable wood slats attached as a floor, and the coaming.
I normally use a sling seat, but the floor slats will provide a better support
base for rolling.
The coaming base plate is made of HDPE, but the coaming will be fiberglass.
I plan to plastic wrap the frame for initial testing. Thanks Scott for the info.
The finished skin will be PVC, possibly 22oz on the hull in place of the
18oz I normally use.
I've included eight cross sections instead of the normal six for a kayak of
this length for additional rigidity. If the shallow frame proves more flexible
than normal, I'll add inwales. It doesn't appear to need them however.
The max chine width is 16" and deadrise is 9 degrees. I've also designed East
Greenland cross sections that are 13" at the chines with 5 deg deadrise. I'll
be testing both cross section types. Freeboard for both is 2.5in at 200lbs.
The two additional cross sections plus wood floor slats will result in a
finished weight of approx. 35-37 lbs.
I'd like to get started on a new stripper, but at the rate I'm going that may end up a winter project.
Thanks,
Tom
