In Response To: S&G: commercial hatches in a merganser (Kameron Decker Harris)
: I'm not sure how I will go about installing commercial hatches (Kajak Sport
: or VCP) in the Merganser I'm building. The deck isn't very flat,
: especially near the bow, so there'll have to be some kind of recess, but I
: don't know how I'll make the recess match the shape of the deck. Also,
: since the Merganser has no sheer clamp, it might be tricky to attach it.
: Thanks for the help.
Why do you want to? A hatch cut from the deck is a strong structure that can be made watertight. VCP hatches are certainly good but they lend themselves to fiberglass production where the labor in construction can be reduced to "put hatch here".
