Mark,
The most common pine species harvested in New Zealand is pinus radiata. Just after the second world war, the kiwis planted thousands of acres of it, and it is now mature. We Aussies took a few years to catch on, and our plantations of the same stuff are about 10 years younger. So the kiwis have been able to capture a large chunk of the international market - but at least they have opened the way for us.
