Pinus Radiata is so common here in NZ it is the only wood we can get at a lot of timber stockists. The density varies between 450 and 560 kg/m3 (WR Cedar is 380kg/m3). The wood grown in the central North Island is on the lighter end of the scale. Easily worked and fairly strong. The only reason it is not used for many kayaks is the fact that it is so common.
