I used Pauduk(sp?) and found it very brittle and difficult to work with. After destroying numeroust strips, I cut 1/16 strips and laminated them to 3/16 cedar, did the bead-cove thing and it worked fine. Bent and twisted as I needed. Of course this would take forever if you were building the entire boat out of these strips. But it may be an option.
Being laminated to the cedar kept it from splintering and breaking as well as cut down on the weight. This may not be an option for you but just thought FWIW...
