Hey Wade/Charles
I did that too, and my reasons were the same, it's easy to sand down later if it don't work out.
I had a little trouble when laying the glass though, it would lift on both sides of the fin so I had to make a cut and patch over.
I'm almost finished too. 2-3 more weeks and it will get wet.
