The Guillemot has "reverse flare" above the sheerline...in that, I mean the boat slopes inward from the sheerline, which is located a bit lower than on other boats. A lot of boats, you'd put the footrests 2 or 3 inches below the sheerline so the footrests are at the balls of your feet.

Your sheer, being lower than normal, will probably require your footbraces to be mounted a bit higher to contact the balls of your feet. Make a quick and dirty paper template at the location where your feet will go (or grab the nearest station. With your heels together on the station (or close), see where the balls of your feet are, and place the footbraces at that vertical location.

I think you'll find that your footbraces "want" to be at or a little above the sheerline...but that's just my guess.

: I have a pair of keeper footbraces that I'm installing tonight and I have a
: question about fit. I'm installing them on a Guillemot 17' and wonder
: where they should be placed in relation to the shear line. It seems that
: close to or an inch lower than the sheer would be ideal. Any thoughts on
: what's more comfortable. I need more experienced advice! Thanks
