: I was wondering if the coaming around the large cockpit would be able to take
: a lot of the structural loads. Do you have dimensions for your cockpit and
: coaming?

The cockpit is 12 feet long and 2 feet at the widest point. The coaming/side decks form a kind of I beam shape. The coaming comes up about 1.5" off the deck and the hardware ports come down about 1.5" below the deck (see picture) the light line in the middle is the edge of the deck. That should really stiffen the hull side-to-side so the thwart is probably not necessary. The side decks are a little over three inches wide and there's a sheer clamp. It is solid but I will add additional support under there just to be safe; my kids will probably be pretty hard on it.

: I will try to keep the weight to a minimum as my co paddler is a pretty
: slight lady (I'm not that big myself) and car topping a heavy double could
: be hard work for us.

It's actually pretty light. I would guestimate it to be about 50lbs. My wife and I can move it no problem.
