: The AA is a boat a lot of people desire in a day boat. Playful, maneuverable,
: not a lot of excess volume. Good in big seas.
: Would be a good idea to try an ocean cockpit boat before you buy one...
: Lack of freeboard=less windage. Also easier to roll!
In addition to Shawn's comments...
I'm 5'10" and 175 pounds and have to pad the foredeck of the Anas to reduce its volume. The volume is low compared to most commercial kayaks but this kayak is relatively large as compared to a "real" Greenland kayak. I really wish that the Anas had slightly lower freeboard (but I consider most commercial kayaks to be much too large).
I've used my Anas for multi-week unsupported trips but this takes very careful packing (backpacker-style). I agree with Shawn's comments but will add that this kayak is somewhat slow (especially in a sprint), the speed tops out quite early. It is also prone to weathercocking (without a skeg). It is very playful with incredible maneuverability and carves a quick turn when leaned. The relatively low back deck and volume of this kayak makes it very good for exploring rolls and other techniques.
The Anas is my "all-around" kayak and my favorite commercial kayak. I don't have a skeg, which occasionally causes me to curse in some conditions. Not having a skeg will give you more internal storage space and will force you to improve your technique. An external skeg is another option. For racing I would recommend a different hull. For general skills and intermediate Greenland skills it is a good choice. For advanced Greenland skills I'd recommend a custom-fitted SOF.
