: Hi. I would appreciate your views on the suitability of the Anas Acuta as a
: Dayboat for an intermediate paddler. Im 6' tall and 190 pounds. I dont
: intend to carry much more than 20 pounds gear.
: Carrying capacity is not an issue.
: I'm mainly concerned with lack of freeboard and cockpit fit.
I'm 6', 175# and have long legs (36" inseam) and size 11 feet. The AA is a snug fit lengthwise and I have to use the bulkhead as a foot rest (I prefer it that way, anyway). Footroom is limited, but I can still wear Chota Quicklace mukluks in it. The cockpit was a comfortable fit, but I still removed the stock seat and replaced it with a foam one (you can see the process at the link below). Like Greg, I padded the foredeck to make the fit more like a Greenland boat.
You'll be pushing the boat's limit, weight-wise, but that's good for a day boat. The AA is not fast, but it's not bad once you get the hull down in the water with a paddler our size. It's rapidly becoming my favorite boat for most paddling. All that aside, the Anas Acuta is arguably the sweetest looking kayak on the market!
