Yo Grant

Race is on! But if I am not there, start without me ;) . I think I will retire form building after this one and concentrate on spending more time on the water.

I got a 6 foot lenght of 6 x 2 of kauri from the demoliton place in Hamilton ($18 NZ per metre). It is a fine piece of wood, but weighs quite alot. For me weight is an issue as I have a bad back and I will have to carry this kayak to the water at some stage. So I will bite the bullet and use western red and damn the expense.

I figure I will have enough kauri (my piece is particularly light in colour) for keel reinforcing, stem and stern strips and a strategically placed highlight strip here and there). That is the plan anyhow.

Must go and buy some of that aquadhere.

Keep in touch

Pete
