well, that's just not true.

I have just tested internet explorer and mozilla. They both cache a version of the html that was returned by the script and store the url (eg www.kayakforum.com/cgi-bin/Building/index.cgi/frames/form/87148) as the referenced address in the cache.

When displaying the bbs index, the browser looks up the url for each message to see if it is in the cache. If it is there, the link to the message in the bbs will come up in Rehd's purple colour; if it is not found, it will come up in the blue colour.

the bbs stores the date/time of your last visit in the cookie and uses this to tag the messages since your last visit as being *new.

The highlighting of the links in blue/purple and the *new markers are independent.

Rehd, are the messages being marked as *new? If not, it is nothing to do with your cookies (or your brownies either). I am still convinced it is going to be a caching problem of some sort. What happens if you change your 'Check for newer versions' option to 'Every time I visit the page' ?
