I've hung my boats by the ends and varnished top, sides, and bottom in one coat. I'm not a good person to use as an example of a gorgeous finish, though. I'm far too impatient by this point, and want my boat in the water. I do realize the need for UV protection, and this is the main reason I get my boats coated.

For skim/flow coats of epoxy prior to varnishing, this works great with one of those little 4" foam rollers.
