My Varnish is over 2 years old so it should not be a problem. It is just scratched, scuffed and worn dull in places where I was too agressive trying to get the hard water marks off the hull. I will lightly sand the whole surface but not aim to remove all the varnish and see what I get.

I don't believe so. How old is your varnish? If it's more than a year old, I
