: How do you plan to do the coaming? Ted's method, Nick's or another?

I’m already planning for the next one. This coaming’s long since done. My sequence was a little different than yours, though.

I built a recess, a la Nick’s book, before glassing the outside surface of the deck. Then after glassing the topside of the deck, but before glassing the underside, I built up the coaming riser with vertical strips, also a la Nick’s book. For that I used laminated strips so that the inside surface of the coaming riser is ash, and the outside surface is WRC. I then glassed the inside of the deck, and added glass to the outside surface of the riser. For the lip, I laminated some 3/16 by 3/16 ash and walnut strips, one at a time, until I got the width I wanted. Then I glassed over the inside surface of the coaming, and the upper surface of the lip, for ding protection, using 4 oz glass, and wrapped that around to the underside of the lip, and overlapped about 4” on the underside of the deck.

Is all of that clear as mud?

It all actually went pretty fast. For the vertical risers, I used regular titebond glue, and fast-cured it with a heat-gun. None of the bending required any steam. Again, the heat-gun provided all the bending necessary (although it was a bit iffy for the walnut).
