: Actually Chip, from the brief discussion I had with her, I think it's more a
: case of: "If you MUST build one, the SOF doesn't generate so much
: dust, so build that."
The truth comes out: Chipper, "The Duster" has been shut down! No more need for the shop vac elbow/chin/helmet system to suck up all of that sawdust. Nothing but skin-on-frame boats in Chip's future, using only his steamer, pullsaw, and the nice collection of planes he has. What his wife doesn't understand is that the garage will still look the same... it will just crunch more when you walk on the shavings.
Chip,
Glad to hear you got the go ahead to build a SOF, since your addiction would have left you unsatisfied unless you start another project. It's funny how, in denial, you actually started to believe that she "wanted" you to build another boat. That's great. But now that you've begun to consider this type of construction, I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I think, with this type of kayak, you will have fun with ALL of the different joinery techniques, and will (as usual), amaze us all. Just think, in a few weeks, you will have the option to test out all kinds of designs at Port Townsend and decide which ones are of interest to you. Good luck.
