Thanks for doing the field work on this "lesson learned". I had several of these where I thought "why don't I just..." only to find out "oh, that's why". Seeing them here helps to reinforce the reasons behind some of these.
I recently found one additional benefit to having a box beam strongback after you finish the kayak. I cut a 3-foot section and had a ready-made steam box for my daughter's SOF.
