I'm the guy who wrote Chip with the original question. I really appreciate all the advice.
I Used the canoe 6 or 7 months before a problem became apparent, seems to me that stress would have shown up before but that is only what sounds right to me.
It does get hot here,(california central valley) and when I first noticed it the temp was at least 85 degrees. I do carry it on my padded pick up rack so during travel it is exposed to direct sun.
Another thing to consider, On the exterior of the boat the problems are in the football, but I also have some in the interior of the boat but they are NOT in the football but rather down about 6 or 7 inches from the gunnels at the waterline area.
