Here's another way I found from all the rub on finishes over the years, and that I have the worst luck with foam brushes...
Take epiphane or Inbterlux and add 10% of so Interlux 333, and like Ken said, only enough. Next, and the completely different twist...take a sheet of the Scott's BLUE shop towel, that's the BLUE stuff (BLUE BLUE BLUE) and dab up a bunch, then rub onto the yak in a methodical manner, fast but consistent, maintaining the pace and wet line. TRhe idea is to put on a consistent coat in a few minutes! I found my stroke and coverage was best if I dabbed up some, rubbed it on in a swirl, dabbed up some more, then did a series of linera and parallel sweeps, then moved on to the next area.
let dry and scuff, and repeat to build the coats, wet sand to 600, rub down with water and alcohol, then the final coat of two rubbed on.
