Good information from prior posts. Here's my 2 cents worth. Take circumference at largest form, multiply by .625 (5/8) and that is how many strips it will take to go around. Add 10 - 15 % for damage, seat material, paddles, and you're there. Don't worry about full pieces. If you need a few scarfs thay won't be that noticable if at all and on the bottom. The deck strips will be broken up by the cockpit so you don't need full strips. By using full 16' strips you will have a lot of scraps as you work your way towards the centerline of the hull anyway.(These could be used for various other parts, seats coaming, etc.)

As you see, lots of different options and opinions.
