I read the write up by Mike Loriz (is that how you spell it?) a while ago. It is a very well written and interesting write up. A lot of thought went into his project. I look forward to seeing more of what he has to say. I'm one of the people who believe that the core material, and the thickness, has quite a lot to do with the strength, weight, handling characteristics, and other positive and negative aspects of kayaks. I don't believe that thick or thin, single or multiple layers of fiberglass, or any other method is THE best method for EVERY boat. One has to design and build for the anticipated task. Research, such as you are doing, will keep you on a pretty good track. I certainly don't expect even more than a very few people to ever agree with all, or any, of what I say...and it certainly doesn't bother me when someone doesn't. I'm just going to be tickled to death when I get to see your project start to take shape. I work mostly afternoon shift...and I really am interested in seeing your kayak as you get started.
