I did this with a canoe. I used 1/8" strips, 3 layers of 3 oz satin weave glass. I worked okay and yielded a very light hull. I'd guess 10 or so pounds for 12 foot boat. Then came the ash gunwales, decks, seat, thwarts, brass stem bands, etc... It now weighs about 30 or so. The strips were very hard to lay up and keep them fair. I could only to three or four a night on each side. I tried to bead and cove using a 1/4" bit, but had no luck.
