Hello,
I’m building a stitch and glue 18 ft. kayak. Locally, I can buy the West System epoxy. The material list calls for:
2.25 gallons marine epoxy---------that would mean to buy 8.5 litre, do they have a 10 litre seize or should I go with two 4.55 litre as I have seen in the catalogue?
1 qt. of silica
1 qt. of microballons
1 qt. of wood flour
A quart would be 32 oz.
In the West System, would Silica be the #406 Colloidal silica filler?
would Microballons be the # 410 Microlight?
would Wood flour be the # ????
I’m more then a little bit confused. I need filler to thicken the epoxy for gluing the scarf joints and shear clamps. Filler for the the fillets and filling caps. But, do I really need 3 qt. and 3 types of filler? What did you guys buy from West System?
Thanks for putting some lights on the subject, as you can see I’m a first time builder.
