Hi Charles, thanks. The foam goes all the way to the sides. I didn't feel like monkeying with the cheek plates... especially since this is a 5yr old boat. The downside is that's about $40 worth of foam. You saw the earlier picture, right? see http://www.chipsandresky.com/Stitchnglue/images/seat1.jpg It shows the fill-in blocks on either side. The hip pads are the blocks sitting on the back deck.
