You can untwist them and re-adjust if you need to fix your panel alignment. They leave a smaller hole when you are done if you want to remove them entirely. Or, you can sand them flush and leave them in. You won't notice them from three feet or more. That's what I did.

Only problem I can think of with copper wires is that I got a few scratches walking around my boat before I cut them off and sanded them smooth. If you are really careful, you may be able to avoid the scratches, but I wasn't. Roses have thorns.
