Never built a pygmy kit boat...or any other kit boat, BUT I have used wire and wire ties for building some S&G boats. I thought the wire ties would be better, but I found that I couldn't tighten up the seams like I needed in some areas. The wire ties would break...and the holes were just a tad larger. Copper is fine. I don't leave any wires in the boat...so I use just about any kind of small guage tie wire.
