:did you embed the magnets in hatch and rim
: and glass over them?

I embedded them into the hatch and rim, but I didn't glass over them. I simply epoxied them in place and epoxied over them. My experience with it was that I did not seal some of the magnets completely and my second day in salt water proved it. A few rusted together and I had to pry the hatch off pulling two magnets out of their recesses. Have since removed the rust and re-epoxied (better job this time) and have experienced no further problems.

Next time I will use fewer magnets per foot of rim space. They are now about 5 inches apart. May try for 8 inches between mags next time. I do prefer the look to straps on the Guillemot, but some kayak designs are more appealing (to me) with the straps. I actually tried the mags on this one just to do it, figured worse case scenario, add straps.

:How many layers of glass does one use to keep em in
: place and protected?

It seems that glassing over magnets would add to the thickness of the hatch and rim, I don't know it the hatch would then fit properly, may protrude from the deck.

: Okay, so that was two questions...

No problem
