Rob, I would really like to use magnets as a hatch retainer, but also like the idea of secondary security, so I would like to follow what you mean here.
Problem is I'm not sure I understand nor can I satisfactorily visualise the arrangement. About the only thing I can see is having the ply attached somehow under the centre of the hatch cover so the lattice can work as a spring either laterally, or longitudinally. Then you can have the ply a little larger than the hatch. To get the hatch on, you would need to slightly compress the sides of the ply, to make it fit into the hatch opening.
Problem with that visualisation is how you then get the hatch cover off again, without breaking the ply. Help me here, am I right off the track? Do you have a picture or a sketch to allow my visual brain to "get" it? Thanks Ron.
