Sounds like you really intend to build a wooden church key.
The round end provides prying action for your hatch.
It also comes with a pre cut hole suitable for tying to your deck.
The shiny surface is suitable for emergency signaling.
The pointy bit could be used to defend yourself against a Sasquatch or other creature who is interested in your beer. Or the pointy bit can be used to scratch messages in bottles when stranded on the deserted Pacific island. The pointy end can puncture holes in more stubborn surfaces (unopended cans).
All in all a multi functional tool!
