: Just read Ken Rasmussen's article again on carving a foam seat. He suggests
: starting with a foam block that's only 12" front to back. My butt's
: not huge, but that seems awfully short to me. I can't imagine that
: provides a lot of support. (remember --- at this point in my kayaking
: career, I've done a lot more building than I have paddling).

: My question for those of you who have built, or are building a foam seat ----
: what length (front to back) did you end up with, in order to get
: comfortable support?

: Thanks;

Ken:
I carved a block seat that was 16" long. It is comfy, but I'm making another one that is 20" long to see if is even more so. This time instead of carving I'm glueing pieces on the bottom of a 1" pad,similar to what Vaclav shows in his manual. This method is less messy and if it's as comfortable ? I think I'll like it.
20" would be long for a carved seat but the the glued up style is lower profile so it is easy to take in and out.
