Hello All;
I know, I know, I should have fessed up two days ago to my stupidity but…. Here’s my Problem: In the rush to get my boats done in time for Sage’s Mono trip I think I skinned to soon after oiling the frames. I now have what I believed to be oil marks on my Nylon. Upon further investigation I cannot determine if the marks are oil or dirt. I had a suggestion to use denatured alcohol to clean the skin. But have yet to try this because I am afraid that it will cause more oil to leach out of the wood. I have several questions.
1) How can I determine the nature of the blemishes on the skin?
2) If they are oil is there any way to get it out of the skin so I can use waterborne Varathane?
3) If they are dirt what is the best way to clean them?
4) If I can no longer use water based Varathane does anyone know of an oil based alternative that won’t make the skin look like a fried corn tortilla in other words not yellow? And won’t cost my first born to buy?
I know I did the worst thing to do on most projects by letting my self get rushed. Any and all help and or advice are appreciated.
Thanks humbly
Richard
