: I have had delamination problems with redwood. My first Expedition Single has
: a lot of RW and I eventually ended up peeling off the glass. It came
: easily off the redwood while remained bonded quite well to the WR cedar
: and pine. I know other people have used RW on some boats that are pretty
: old now, but I am starting to think that RW is questionable.
My son and I built a Guillemont from some 40 year old redwood siding I took off a house, the only problem is the very nasty slivers. I read redwood goes through a chemical change for many years, maybe mine is well aged. We have abused and had a great time with it and no glass problems. We had to swim in the yaks in 5' to 8' surf and they hit together and the ding crushed wood but did not delaminate. Old is better!
