: I finally put my guillemot in the water. Everything is finished except the
: varnish. My problem is the boat wants to drift a little to the left. While
: I was paddling a memory popped into my head. The piece of plywood I used
: for the forms was a little warped. I didn't think it would be a problem
: because the forms were small. But the end form had a slight curve to it
: (not much so I used it anyway). Now I think that might be my problem. Does
: anyone have any comments or solutions?
: Thanks
: Mark
I saw pictures of some of the present day Greenlander's kayaks, shown at the Delmarva Paddle Retreat
last year, (think Greenland skin boats, hard core, more time rolling than paddling).
I found it interesting to see that some used a lash-on skeg. This would be a great solution for the few times
you might really want the extra tracking performance, or you could use it to find exactly the right size and
placement of a skeg before installing a permanent one.
The lash-on skeg was just a fin with a block to fit the hull shape with cords/straps to lash it over the hull/deck.
All the best,

Peter Strand -- 7/26/2003, 6:29 am- You might add a fixed skeg, or shift your weight
