Rick,
I don't know if you have already put on the lip but I didn't try to glass the lip on my Guillemot. I glassed on the outside and inside of the riser prior to laminating a lip with an ash strip. 5 years later I have had no problems with the lip. It was costed in epoxy and varnished but it is plenty strong without the glass.
