In Response To: Epoxy: Smooth enough for Varnish? (AJ)

AJ,

I apply my epoxy with a foam roller. It allows me to apply a thin and even coat quickly. I use the Raka very slow hardener so that it has time to level and any small air bubbles are released.

What you want is a fair surface more than a glass like surface. I apply 3-4 coats and sand lightly with a long board in between to take off high spots. The low spots will show up as shiny areas. I normally don't sand with anything finer than 150 grit prior to varnishing so that I get a better mechanical bond.

Regards,

Jack
