: I've only just recently started thinking about building one these works of
: art. I ordered Nicks book yesterday and can't wait for it to arrive.
: Reading some of these threads makes it a bit intimidating. Did any of you
: have second thoughts after you started? I live in England at the moment
: and the winters are a bit harsh. With summer more than half over do you
: think this will be a project (strip built) worth starting? I can heat my
: garage so no worries there.
: It sounds like I am trying to talk myself out of this. It must be a great
: feeling of accomplishment after all the trials and errors as well.
: Tight lines.

If you enjoy building stuff in general, if you have a table saw, and router already, and if you like kayaking, and can afford the cost of materials, and time .
The answer is go.
The only negatives I found:
1)A wee bit of regret after finishing just in time for winter, and not being able to paddle for Months. and the loss of other summer activities, as I really spent alot of time on the building.
2) I kinda missed my wife too that summer ;-)
3) I was a lax on the breathing protection, and developed a pretty ugly reaction to the Cedar dust (now wood dust in general).
Consider finding local builders, and checking it out in person... I'll bet you start as soon as you get home.
cheers,
Myrl
