: Dave, have you launched your boat yet? (other than the plastic deck test?)

Yes; Posted details at the top of the page.

: I played around with Carlson Hulls a bunch this weekend. It's pretty easy to
: get a design out of the software.
:Not too hard to input anthropometric
: measurements into the desigh, too.

Agreed. Put in some "important points" on the hull, then exaggerate the view to fair the lines. The only real complaint that I have is that you only get 5 stations, and 2 are taken by the stem and stern. So, it is difficult to get the pinch just right in the ends and also get the desired convexity in the middle of the deckplan. You can always design without much pinch and just put more in when it is being built. The output is pretty accurate; but it is expected that the builder will have to spend some time with a block plane to get the panels to fair.

Hmmm... I wonder if you could design two 9 foot square transom boats, the two transoms being identical, and put the two together as bow and stern. That would make for more control points. But then again, there is a big chance of fairing trouble.

..I don't know how easy it would be to
: come up with an anthropometric S&G design without a little CAD help.
: Ideas?

I think it would be difficult for most people to come up with panel offsets on their own, without CAD. I guess that's an advantage to building SOF, The stringer IS the spline.

There are bigger risks involved designing a hard shell personal- sized qajariaq. With a SOF, the builder has the opportunity to saran-wrap test, and then re-lash if changes are desired. With a hard shell, if you make a bad design, the options are limited regarding a fix.
