If lightening is coming my way I head for the truck and get off the water. If I can't make it to the truck I head for shore. If you are in a lightening storm on the water you are flirting with death. This may sound drastic...but I'm still alive and I plan on keeping it that way. Just for information...I was standing about 20 feet from a tree that got struck. Another woman was about 10 feet from the tree. The lightening stripped the bark and made a big ragged groove down the tree. Where it hit the ground at the base of the tree was a big churned up hole. The woman was knocked off her feet and was unconcious for several minutes. I was rocked pretty good. This happened about 45 years ago at a small amusement park in New Mexico. I've also repaired homes where the lightening hit the tv antenna, followed the guy wires down, and blew 4 foot holes in the roof. Lightening is not something to afraid of, but not something to flirt with either.
