: You say that it's a small volume for your size.....If I may, ask what size
: are you????
I'm about 205 lbs right now, and 5'10".
When I paddle, I point my toes forward like in a SOF. It is fairly tight on my size 10 feet.
:If you see the posting just before yours I'm a big paddler in
: search for such a boat. It really look similar to the artic hawk I was
: talking about, Could you give us a little more spec and, if you paddled
: the artic hawk, could you compare it?
Here is the trouble with low-volume kayaks. If you design to a certain displacement, and design to very low volume, there is no room for "extra".
For example, I considered building the Sea Spirit, which is extremely low at 5.5 inches deck height aft. But the hydrostatics suggest that my weight would put the aft deck almost awash.
For comparison purposes, my boat has more volume than the Sea Spirit, because it is higher (7" aft) and has a shape a bit more full. It has less volume than the Arctic Hawk, as the Arctic hawk is higher, wider, and has a bigger bow.
I'm going off the top of my head here, but the hydrostatic data suggest that my boat will have freeboard less than 2 inches at displacement 285 lbs of boat, paddler and gear.
I have not paddled the Arctic Hawk, so I cannot give a comparison, but it is a highly regarded design.
:Finally, is it in your project to
: make plans or offset
: available.
I plan to continue with this project and make plans available in the future. As this is the prototype, I need to get opinions from as as many paddlers as possible, so that changes may be made. As of yet, the boat has not been paddled in very much wind or waves. I plan on attending the Newfound Rendezvous, and Delmarva Paddlers Retreat, and I would appreciate comments from paddlers who try it. I really feel the need to test and evaluate the hull in the conditions for which it was designed, otherwise, Lee will be on my case for the next 5 years. ;-)
Regards,
Dave
