: Thanks Rob, yes the tape is 3" wide, I failed to mention that. Do you
: use a bias cut strip that you cut yourself for the outside or have you
: found a tape that goes clear for the outer seam? I hate dealing with the
: loose strands on cut cloth but most of the tape I have seen doesn't wet
: out clear on the strand that hems the tape.
I don't use finished edge seam tape because the finished edge never goes
totally clear, it traps air bubbles.
I don't use bias cut regular cloth. It's a big waste of cloth trying to get long lengths
when you have to cut on the diagonal.
I cut straight runs of cloth for my exterior seams using a rotory cloth cutter. It produces
much less fraying. I roll the resin on the exterior seams. This also produces less fraying.
I don't fret about stray glass strands. I wet-out and fill the weave of the seam tape and
ignor frayed edges. Then I feather the tape edges and rough sand the whole boat at
the same time. Any frayed edges of cloth are sanded away when I feather the seam edges.
All the best,
Rob Macks
