I've always used only one layer of tape on the inside...and outside. Ordinarily I use the 6 oz. cloth cut 3" wide. I bought a roll of selvedged 7 oz. tape and have used that where I could...but I won't be buying any more of that. It's much better to just cut your own out of the 6 oz. cloth. That strip does not need to be on the bias.
