: Sweet!
: Looking forward to Delmarva!!
: With regards to responding to a lean. I have a hypothesis that one needs a
: certain amount of beam for the kayak to respond to a lean. I'm working on
: some ultra-low, (6") ultra narrow (18") kayaks, and intuitively,
: I'm not sure I can get enough of the ends out of the water to make
: effective leaned turns. Frankly, there'd be so little volume to go
: underwater to lift the stem and stern. Thoughts?
Just a comment about responding to a lean...maybe actually a question...since I am much less experienced at paddling kayaks than building them. I have mostly built hard chine S&G boats along with a few strip builts along the way. My current strip built is very wide, 28", and 16' long. It was designed as a general purpose, utility/expedition kayak with two position seating...low and very high (10" high...I can sit on the deck behind the cockpit and paddle away). Anyway...for various reasons I went with an elliptically shaped hull, full volume fore and aft. The hard chine boats would respond to a lean, but this one doesn't respond much...if any...simply continueing to go straight as one leans. Would it be correct to assume that the more definate chines on the hard chine boats contributes to the lean?
